J.R.'s Birthday Party

Saturday we headed to Astoria to attend a birthday party for one of Emmy's friends from our Spina Bifida group. J.R. just started the walking program at Shriners a bit before Christmas and has recently begun moving one leg on his own. We haven't had the opportunity to have the two of them walk together yet but we will eventually.

Emmy had a great time at his party. There was ample space for her to wheel everywhere. The cake and ice cream were a highlight of the day and she was on a sugar high for hours afterward. We were introduced to J.R.'s physical therapist and his wife and Emmy found great joy in bopping them with the punch balls that she collected from around the room. It was fun to watch her interact with others (even if it meant bopping them). She is usually soooo shy.

On the way home we stopped off at a beach where you can drive your car out on the sand. It was a weird feeling. I have never done that before. Emmy wanted to go to the water so she and Dada took a little walk and collected a few shells along the way.
