Emmy's First Sunday School Experience

Emmy went to the three year old Sunday School class at church today. She has always gone with me to the infant nursery where she could crawl around and play with the babies. However, now that she is older and has friends at church that are her age, it was time to introduce her to her actual Sunday School class (my little girl is getting so big!).

At first she was a bit timid and acted shy but she did eventually warm up. They started their class time with a treasure hunt around the room for clues that their friend Theo the stuffed dog had left for them. The clues helped them figure out their memory verse. After they recited their memory verse they had a Bible story where they learned about how easy it can be to tell others about Jesus. Each of them were given a piece of play dough and then they had to tell the rest of the group what they made. (Emmy made a turtle-thought you would like that Nah!) The play dough activity helped to reiterate how easy and simple it can be to tell others about Jesus, just like they told their friends about what they made with play dough.

Following the play dough activity they had snack... they cut Jell-O jigglers out in the shape of crosses. My precious daughter had never seen, nor had she tasted, Jell-O. She had no idea what to do with it. (I normally try not to give her sugar or food dyes). When the teachers learned this, they were awesome and asked what kinds of things they should bring for Emmy for snack. I told them for the purpose of Sunday school that she could have what ever the rest of the kids were having. My thoughts were...
she already has to deal with being "different" by having to use wheels, I didn't want her being "different" because she has a weird snacks to eat as well. You just have to pick your battles some times. The Sunday School teachers were so caring and considerate of Emmy. They wanted to know what she could do and what she couldn't do. I told them the same thing we tell most folks... she is a typical three year old, she just wheels instead of walks.
