Today we met one of Emmy's friends from our Spina Bifida group at the Waterfront Park here in Salem. The girls had so much fun together. They pushed their "wheels" all around the park. The playground is somewhat accessible in that one of the play structures has a ramp so that wheelchair users can get to the top of the structure. The problem is... the only thing to do once they get to the top is to park their wheelchairs and slide down to the bottom. Once on the ground, they then have to wait for someone to run up the ramp, wheel the chair back down to them and thus the process starts again. The girls thought it was great fun. The Mommies thought it was a bit of a work out. However, it gives them an opportunity to play and get dirty (boy, were they filthy!). We also road the carousel while we were there. On the first ride the girls chose to sit on horses, on the second ride they wanted to ride in the covered wagon. Neither of them were ready to stop riding. It was a fun way to spend a beautiful Friday morning. Next time we are going to pack a picnic lunch and plan to stay a little bit longer.
